Developers
Bitcoin developers work across protocol, software, and hardware. Bitcoin Core contributors review and merge changes to the reference implementation. Wallet engineers build self-custody tools. ASIC designers and firmware teams produce the specialized hardware that secures the network. Node operators run full nodes that validate the chain independently.
The work is technical, mission-driven, and largely open source. Many contributors are unpaid or compensated through grants and company sponsorships. The talent pool is small relative to the network’s economic size, and the quality of review determines how safely changes reach production.
